Diemut Strebe
Diemut Strebe is a German-born, US based artist and recently completed the Ida Ely Rubin Artist in Residence at the MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology.
She works on the intersection of art and science to address contemporary issues. The addressed questions often involve topics that relate to philosophy and literature.
Strebe gained broad recognition in 2014 for her work Sugababe, a clone of the notoriously cut off ear of Vincent van Gogh. Leading linguist and author Noam Chomsky was the first person to speak into the ear through a sound installation.
In 2019 she presented The Redemption of Vanity at the New York Stock Exchange, a two million Dollar natural diamond, covered with the blackest black on earth. Her latest The Prayer work was recently on view in Centre Pompidou Paris in which she explores the supernatural through artificial intelligence.

The Prayer
The Prayer is probably the first robot that talks and sings to God, to all Gods. A robot, equipped with a talking mouth, tries to connect to the divine by using Deep-Learning, an automatic learning method that tries to mimic the functions of the human brain.
Can artificial intelligence come in contact with the divine? The question may seem strange but through his work, Diemut Strebe questions us about the potential and implications of artificial intelligence as well as the limits of its field of application.
